Floating rubbish dump 'bigger than US'

Also known as the Pacific plastic soup, it is a vast area of
plastic debris drifting in the northern Pacific Ocean. It is
believed to contain about 100 million tonnes of plastic - or
about 2.5 per cent of all plastic items made since 1950

Bottled water the 'new eco-disaster'

Plastic water bottles are becoming a major environmental
hazard. Global consumption of bottled water rose 57 per cent
from 1999 to 2004. Only 35% of these bottles are recycled.
