NuPak is the first company in Australia to launch Goody Additive (PE) technology into their plastic bags. These bags are compliant with Australian Standard (AS4736) for biodegradable plastic suitable for composting and other microbial treatment.
Goody Additive (PE) is the only additive in the world to achieve this compliance.

The challenge
• To commercialise an environmentally friendly plastic bag.
• To develop a Goody additive that will:
• Enable the plastic bag to biodegrade & compost
• Have a minimum shelf life
• Keep the plastic's normal strength & permeability properties
• Meet internationally recognised composting compliance - so in an industrial composting environment it will compost within 90 days
The process
• Develop Goody Additive (PE) to achieve the specifications required.
• Send to Flinders University ‘Faculty of Science and Engineering School of Biological Sciences’ for independent testing to obtain compliance with the Australian Standard (AS4736).
• Produce large commercial / sample runs of PE plastic bags using Goody Additive (PE).
• Poly Products Australia tested sample bags ensuring the physical properties satisfied Australian Standards for Strength & Durability.
• NuPak take to the South Australian (SA) market as an approved solution for SA retailers since the plastic bag ban legislation.
The results
• Goody Additive (PE) complies with Australian Standard (AS4736)
• Manufactured bags pass Australian Standards for Strength & Durability
• NuPak within 1 month have sold over 20 million plastic bags using Goody Additive (PE) technology.
• Within 1 month over 200 tonnes of PE plastic that would have normally polluted our environment and if composted actually becomes a natural resource for our environment - saving water, enriching soils and reducing green house gas emissions.
